Exciting final day Delta Lloyd Regatta 2010

It was an exciting last day of the Delta Lloyd Regatta 2010. The breeze picked up to about 15-18 knots, sometimes gusting up to 20 knots during the match race finals. The remaining six Medal Races were sailed and Le Berre and Mcgregor had a close battle for the match racing title, won by the French trio.

Miarczynski and Manchon win RS:X classes

The wind was very light when the RS:X men started their medal Race on Sunday morning. Regatta leader Przemek Miarczynski (POL) won the race on the line to take his first title of the season. Andreas Carioulou (CYP) dominated the Medal Race but Miarczynski gradually caught up to pass him on the last meters. `I was waiting for the gusts to catch up with Andreas. On the last run, I went to the right and did my job! It had been difficult racing, both physically and mentally. The light wind meant pumping constantly and looking out for the shifts and pressure.` Going into the Medal race in fifth position, Nick Dempsey (GBR) took third place in the Medal Race and Silver in the event, with Nimrod Mashiah (ISR) keeping bronze, only one point from Piotr Myszka (POl) who loses his earlier second place to fourth.

A low pressure located just northwest of the Wadden will today towards the northeastern part of Germany. The low will reach Northwest-Poland at the end of the day. The wind will veer from the southwest to the west during the second part of the morning, during the evening the wind will become northwest.

2010 Delta Lloyd Regatta crowns three champions

On Saturday May 29, the 2010 Delta Lloyd Regatta crowned three champions in Medemblik. The British team of Asher and Willis won the 470 men series after a nerve-racking Medal Race. As expected, the Norwegians Melleby and Pederson grabbed the victory in the Star class. The Italians sailors Conti and Micol finished their job and won the 470 Women. All races were covered live on the internet, by television and tracing & tracking.

Preview on today`s Medal Races

The 470 men will be the first to compete in the Medal race. Two last races concluded the programme on Saturday morning. Nick Asher and Elliot Willis (GBR) have lost their comfortable advantage after collecting an OCS on the first race. They will go into the medal race with a seven points lead over Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page (AUS) and ten points over Argentina Lucas Calabrese and Juan de la Fuente.

Saturday evening. Between a ridge east of The Netherlands and a low over the British Isles a southerly surface flow is maintained. In the course of the day both systems move to the east. During the evening the wind is pushed in the southeasterly corner and will increase on approach of the aforementioned low.

Friday late news

The RS :X have been the last back to shore on Friday after racing three races. The Polish team has performed in the strong breeze, gaining valuable places to the overall regatta ranking. Prezmek Miarczynski (POL) collected two bullets and a second to steal top place in the overall rankings from Nimrod Mashiah (ISR). Team mate Piotr Myszka gets to third position, sailing consistently since the start of the event in top five places.
